Congress School - Darjeeling, India

The Congress School is located on the outskirts of Darjeeling and in late 2005 they seeked assistance for the rebuilding of their classrooms. The classrooms were originally constructed of tin and leaked during the monsoon season. £8,000 was donated by the Juniper Trust which enabled the complete rebuilding of the School. With the leftover funds, they have now built an additional hall with a stage - which serves as a recreation room with small attached library and a mini theatre for the students to perform on stage.

In Spring 2006, York College visited the school and assisted with whitewashing the walls and joined in some celebrations to recognise the completion of the School. In the Spring of 2007, King Edwards School visited Congress school and established a link with a promiose to help where they can.

Since completion in 2006, the school has attracted more students as conditions have improved considerably. Before completion, two classes were being taught in one class room, now they have their own class rooms which helps concentation and makes it easier for the teacher!
